Chapter 81 Trading again
Chapter 81 Trading again
But Pushkin still disagreed with this argument, retorting: "Do not underestimate the goodness of humankind!"
Agreed countered with facts: "But don't underestimate the evil in humanity! You've probably seen more of the Church of Light, the ulterior motives of royal families, and the filth between people than I have."
Pushkin pursed his lips and changed the subject, saying, "Alright, I can't argue with you. Can we change the subject?"
Agreed sighed, "So what are you planning to do next? If the Mind Flayers are behind this, then all our efforts are in vain. This disaster won't end as long as they're still alive."
Pushkin asked gravely, "Do you know their location?"
Agreed thought for a moment and replied, "I have a way to find them, but... our small group is likely to be wiped out. Mind flayers are not like Ete monsters. Those humanoid monsters with octopus faces are born with strange psionic magic. If our small group goes there, we will only be sending ourselves to our deaths."
Pushkin downed his drink in one gulp, then stood up and said, "Get the position first, and I'll ask the Church of Light for help." With that, he walked towards the door, ready to write a letter requesting assistance right now.
At this point, Agreed suddenly questioned him, "What if they don't support us?"
Pushkin paused, then said solemnly, "Then I'll go myself. There are some things that must be done, Agreed, even if it means death." With that, he walked out of the tavern, leaving Agreed alone to drink.
“I have to do it…” Agreed murmured, then downed the liquor in his glass.
That night, in Agreed's room
On the ground, Agreed dripped his blood into the ink, then used the ink to draw a strange seven-pointed star symbol. As the incantation was chanted, a powerful demon was summoned. With his eyes closed, he lazily called out, "Human, what do you seek here? Is the sacrifice ready? Do you know the rules of making a deal with a demon?"
Agreed spoke up, saying, "I know, I can..."
But the demon suddenly stood up abruptly upon hearing his voice. Upon seeing Agreed, he immediately knelt down and apologized, saying, "It's you, Lord Mammon's honored guest. Please forgive my blind eyes for not recognizing you clearly. I will transfer you to Lord Mammon immediately."
Upon seeing this, Agred quickly asked, "What do you mean by this?"
The demon bowed again and explained, “You are Lord Mammon’s honored guest. Lord Mammon has instructed that he will personally receive all your business dealings. As subordinates of the sin of greed, we demons naturally dare not disobey. To be honest, apart from the Seven Deadly Sins and the gods, you are the only one who has been personally received by Lord Mammon. Such an honor surprises even us, after all, you are not even a demigod.”
After hearing the explanation, Agreed replied, "I only have some acquaintance with Mammon. Please connect me to him."
The demon nodded in agreement, and then a wall of fire appeared in front of him, pulling him back into hell. The magic circle below then activated again, and Mammon leaped out, shouting, "My little darling, what's wrong? What happened that made you resort to a demonic ritual to make a deal with my minions? You haven't come to see me in a while, or have you been so busy saving humanity that you haven't even had time to go to Pawnshop Number Seven?"
Agreed nodded and explained, "I understand that the mastermind behind this beast tide is the mind flayers. Can you tell me their location?"
Mammon spread his hands and replied with a smile, "Of course, I thought it was something serious. It's just about the positions of those evil god followers. You finally figured out the connection between these things. How frustrating it is to keep doing useless work, isn't it?"
"Enough talk, name your price," Agreed shouted.
"Hmm~ I'll just charge you two souls for the offerings needed for the summoning, plus the cost of the information. After all, the information fee is mainly based on low profit and high volume, and those guys' locations are very easy to find, so the information itself isn't very valuable."
Agreed took out the crystal ball and paid for the soul, then asked, "If the evil god sends an avatar here, do you have a way to help me repel him?"
Mammon smiled knowingly and said, "The price for clashing with God is very high. You can ask me to help you, but as payment... I want your soul!"
Agreed snorted helplessly, "Fine, I'll figure it out myself. Give me the location, and I'll come see you at the pawnshop later."
Mammon had no choice but to transmit a map with a soul imprint into Agreed's mind, then turned and walked into the magic circle. However, before leaving, he turned back and tempted him, "Think about it again, little guy. It's a pity that a genius like you is human." After that, Mammon walked into the magic circle without looking back and returned to Hell.
Afterwards, Agreed quickly used magic to clean all the symbols from the summoning circle. Then he lay on the bed, looking at the ceiling with worry, because he knew that the Knights of Light had no chance of winning against the Mind Flayer!
Thinking of this, Agreed suddenly sat up in bed and used communication magic to call for help.
The next day, just as dawn was breaking, Pushkin anxiously woke Agred.
Agred pushed open the door and asked suspiciously, "What's wrong?"
Pushkin sighed and replied, "The Church of Light claims it won't offer us any help, so let's just set off. Do you know where the Mind Flayers are?"
Agreed confirmed, "I already know their location. They live in an underground city in the eastern part of the human kingdom. They're cunning; the underground city is located beneath a forest of magical beasts, and a large number of high-level magical beasts guard the entrance, making it very difficult to approach. Tell the brothers to prepare their supplies: food, water, potions, armor, weapons, and arrows. Don't be afraid to bring too much. Trust me, once the battle begins, those supplies will never be enough. We'll set off once everything is ready."
Pushkin nodded, then left the hotel and began preparing supplies as instructed by Agred.
Half a day later, everything was ready, and Agreed led the team in a grand procession toward their destination.
Soon the group arrived at the outskirts of the Beast Forest, where the Mindflayer dungeon was located. Agreed did not rush in, indicating that everyone should rest on the outskirts first.
Pushkin walked up to Agred and asked, "What are you waiting for? If we rest any longer, we might miss the best attacking opportunity."
Agreed looked at him and explained, "Don't be impatient. Mind flayers aren't as stupid as you think. They knew we were coming. Now they're waiting in ambush. The more anxious you are, the more you'll fall into their trap. Let's wait for our reinforcements to arrive."
Pushkin asked in confusion, "Reinforcements?"
Suddenly, a griffin's cry came from above. Upon hearing it, Agreed grinned and said, "Our reinforcements have arrived."
Then a huge griffin flapped its wings and slowly landed in front of Agred, while Milton, sitting on it, laughed and called out, "Old friend, we're not too late, are we?"
