Chapter 469 - 469: DSMW [469]
Chapter 469 - 469: DSMW [469]
Miles said gravely, "An anti-Xyz weapon… negating the effects of monsters without Levels."Amid the star-filled field of space, as the battleship cut through the constellations, the combat-mode [Ursarctic Septentrion] swung its sword-axe, freezing [Number F0: Utopic Future] on Miles' field.
With that, as expected, Utopic Future fell squarely within the range of Septentrion's sealing effect.
And that range included every other Xyz Monster as well.
Krista's eyes widened slightly in shock. "So something like this was sleeping beneath the academy's back mountain…"
Although her own ace was Shooting Quasar Dragon, born of Overlimit Accel Synchro, the moment Krista grasped the truth, she instinctively sensed a trace of danger.
Just as the experimental little Miles had said, to leave behind a deck like this, the duel ten years ago that flattened the back mountain must have been powerful enough to affect the entire continent.
After all, if one of the three great powers—the Xyz-focused Holy Varian Empire—learned that a monster card specifically designed to counter Xyz Summoning existed near Synchron Academy, they would never simply sit by and do nothing.
Another war might even break out.
And since the Holy Varian Empire had made no move, it meant that this matter remained unknown for now.
Such a dangerous deck had slept in obscurity near Synchron Academy for ten full years—only to finally fall into the hands of the experimental little Miles.
"Is this really just a coincidence?" Viel wondered aloud.
Thinking it over carefully, she had only ever input Miles' Turbo Duel data into the experimental subject's personality.
Yet after destroying the Magic Workshop with an unknown monster, the experimental Miles had almost immediately headed straight for the abandoned factory behind the academy.
Viel could guarantee that when she created the experimental subject, she had not loaded any irrelevant data at all.
And yet, little Miles' personality seemed to know from the very beginning that a deck existed here.
She had joked before that Miles had the talent of a rare card hunter, but explaining this away as a mere coincidence or intuition now felt far too flimsy.
"There's just one thing I need to know right now, Viel," Miles said, reaffirming it mid-duel with himself. "If I beat myself and reclaim my body, then that deck is mine too, right?"
"In theory, yes," Viel cautioned. "But if the Holy Varian Empire finds out you're holding an anti-Xyz weapon, there's a good chance you'll be hunted down."
"That doesn't matter!"
Livorden's relations with the Empire were already poor due to the Battle of the Royal Capital.
So, compared to whether he'd be hunted by the Xyz Empire, the deck right in front of him mattered far more to Miles.
At first, he'd been worried that after obtaining a new body, he might have to start from scratch again, summoning and rebuilding a deck from zero.
He hadn't expected that his own body would be thoughtful enough to help him find a deck in advance.
And not just any deck, but one specialized in anti-Xyz combat, brimming with a soul of steel.
"Thinking about winning already? That's too early!"
With final battle mode deployed, little Miles—operating the giant mech Ursarctic Septentrion atop the cosmic battleship—declared the activation of the ship beneath his feet.
"Field Spell Card [Ursarctic Septentrion], activate its effect!"
[Each time a monster is Special Summoned, place 1 counter on this card.]
"Since I Special Summoned [Ursarctic Megapolar] and [Ursarctic Septentrion] after the Field Spell was activated, I place 2 counters on the battleship!"
Across the grand deck of the cosmic warship, the path of the Septentrion—gleaming like a constellation—lit up as two stars flared to life with the placement of counters.
Ren analyzed, "Counters were placed, but no immediate effect occurred?"
"Are they cumulative counters?" Miles looked at the Septentrion path, where five stars still remained unlit.
From Miles' estimation, the card's ultimate effect would likely only activate once all seven stars representing the Septentrion were illuminated.
"Battle!"
After placing the two counters, little Miles swept his arm and declared the Battle Phase.
In the vacuum of space atop the battleship, the combat-mode [Ursarctic Septentrion] stomped across the deck, sword-axe in hand, launching forward with explosive force.
"Destroy [Number F0: Utopic Future]!—Polar Sky Ice Sever!"
Originally, Utopic Future's effect prevented it from being destroyed by battle and negated all battle damage, which was why Miles had confidently summoned it on the very first turn to hold the field.
What he hadn't expected was that the deck the experimental little Miles produced wasn't just a Synchro killer—but an outright anti-Xyz weapon.
With no Level, all of Utopic Future's effects were negated. It was now nothing more than a vanilla monster with 0 Attack.
[Number F0: Utopic Future] Destroyed
An arctic blade cleaved through the vacuum of space—unscientific, perhaps, but a single strike on par with Blue-Eyes White Dragon was spectacle enough.
[Miles, LP: 3200 → 200]
With Utopic Future stripped of its battle-damage immunity, the clash between 0 Attack and 3000 Attack sent a freezing wave of damage crashing straight into Miles.
In a single turn, he'd been driven into a critical Life Point state.
"That was careless, Miles!" Krista cried out anxiously.
Even though Utopic Future normally took no battle damage, if Miles had Xyz Summoned it in Defense Position from the start, he likely could have tanked the damage even with its effects negated.
"Calling it careless might not be quite right, though the price was definitely steep!"
While enduring the freezing battle storm, Miles flung a card from his hand.
"When I take battle damage, I activate the effect of [Magikuriboh]!"
[During the Main Phase or Battle Phase of the turn you take battle damage or effect damage: You can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard; Special Summon 1 "Dark Magician" or "Dark Magician Girl" from your Deck or Graveyard. This effect can also be activated during your opponent's turn.]
"I send [Magikuriboh] to the Graveyard and Special Summon [Dark Magician Girl] from my Deck!"
Brilliant black magic erupted, and guided by Kuriboh, the youthful and radiant Dark Magician Girl materialized, floating gracefully in the cosmic battlefield.

Trading 3000 damage for the summoning of his wife was indeed a very costly price.
Little Miles immediately followed up, "Then when you Special Summon a monster, the Field Spell [Ursarctic Septentrion] places another counter!"
With Dark Magician Girl's appearance, the third star along the Septentrion's path lit up.
"Finally, I Set one card and end my turn!"
As the second player's turn ended, the cosmic battlefield shifted, and the Spirit Eyes deck of Miles flared to life.
Miles declared seriously, "Since it's not a Synchro-killer Meklord Emperor, then Synchro is back on the table!"
Aisha: "Oh! Are we accelerating now, Mr. Miles!"
Synchro unlocked—this line wasn't just for Aisha. It was also a message to Stardust within the Soul Room of the Millennium Puzzle.
In truth, Miles had never planned to abandon Synchro in this duel from the very beginning.
Because, going by the general logic of the anime's storyline, Synchro-killer Meklord Emperors didn't actually fare well against Synchro.
Especially with [Ursarctic Septentrion]—which sealed Xyz—still standing on the experimental little Miles's field, it became even more necessary to change away from the initial Xyz-based strategy.
"My turn—draw!"
Answering Miles's expectations once more, a brand-new Tuner monster entered Aisha's hand.
What, you're asking where this brand-new Tuner came from?
After the Synchron Academy Turbo Duel Tournament ended, there had been an additional week of classes. And that week of Tuner-exclusive summoning courses hadn't been for nothing.
Although Aisha was still very much true to her personal style, only able to summon low-Level monsters, low-Level monsters with the Tuner attribute were, instead, exceptionally useful.
"I'm going in! I Normal Summon [Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter] in Attack Position!"
[Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter] Level 2│DARK│Fairy│800 ATK
A cute, girl-shaped Tuner monster wielding a broom hopped into existence, landing beside Dark Magician Girl and forming an adorable double-girl lineup.
"A Level 2 Tuner and the Level 6 Dark Magician Girl—so it's coming!" Krista exclaimed excitedly. "Stardust!"
"Not just Stardust. With twin dragons advancing in parallel, I'll use this card to fully unleash the power of the materials!"
In the cosmic battlefield, standing atop the steel battleship's deck, Miles raised the Spell Card in his hand.
"—Spell Card [Harmonic Synchro Fusion]!"
[Send 1 group of monsters from your field to the Graveyard that are both the Synchro Materials listed on a Synchro Monster Card and the Fusion Materials listed on a Fusion Monster Card; then Synchro Summon that Synchro Monster and Fusion Summon that Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck.]
An extremely special "Fusion" Spell Card—one that incorporated Synchro Summoning into the very concept of Fusion.
It was an existence that shattered the barrier between the two summoning methods.
To simultaneously master Fusion and Synchro Summoning—across the entire Spirit Continent, only a handful of Duelists like Miles could even make use of this card.
And its material requirements were even more demanding.
The materials on the field had to simultaneously satisfy both the conditions for a Synchro Summon and a Fusion Summon in order to activate [Harmonic Synchro Fusion].
The conditions for Synchro Summoning went without saying.
"A Level 2 Tuner [Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter] and the Level 6 [Dark Magician Girl]—total Level 8, Synchro!"
2★ + 6★ = 8★
"Gathered prayers shall become a newborn shining star! Turn into a radiant path of light! Synchro Summon! Fly forth, Stardust Dragon!"
From the converging starlight emerged the unmistakable silhouette of a dragon—the very brilliance that represented Stardust Dragon soaring through space.
[Stardust Dragon] Level 8│WIND│Dragon│2500 ATK
Yet on the other side, the Fusion Summon born from [Harmonic Synchro Fusion] manifested a dragon form none of them had ever seen before.
In stark contrast to the radiant Stardust Dragon, this venomous dragon lurked within profound darkness—its power inherited from the Carlos ancestors.
"Two DARK-Attribute monsters! While [Ret-time Reviver Emit-ter] and [Dark Magician Girl] perform a Synchro Summon, I also perform a Fusion Summon!"
"A Fusion Summon using two DARK monsters?!" Ren exclaimed in shock. "Since when did you and Aisha have a card like that?!"
Ren's ignorance was understandable, but even Aisha herself was seeing it for the first time.
That couldn't be helped. After all, the one who inherited Yuna's past power within the Obelisk was the other side—Dark Aisha.
Dark Aisha: "Go, Miles! Use this power and take your body back!"
"Flowers blooming in the darkness, now merge into one! Become the hands of the clock and point toward a brand-new path! Fusion Summon! Descend, venomous dragon with jet-black fangs—Starving Venom Fusion Dragon!"
[Starving Venom Fusion Dragon] Level 8│DARK│Dragon│2800 ATK
[DARK monsters ×2]
Shattering the boundary between Synchro and Fusion, the activation of [Harmonic Synchro Fusion] transformed the two girl monsters on Miles' field into dragons of light and darkness simultaneously.
"Stardust Dragon and… Starving Venom Fusion Dragon," Krista murmured, her mouth slightly agape.
Synchro and Fusion unfolding at once—twin dragons charging forward together made for an overwhelmingly gorgeous counteroffensive.
After having his Xyz Summon sealed the previous turn, Miles immediately shifted tactics, launching a ferocious assault by exploding into two entirely different summoning methods at once.
"So cool. In just one week, Miles has gotten even stronger," Krista said, her eyes sparkling like stardust.
It seemed like they'd only been apart for a week, but she didn't know that on the very day she left, Miles had gone through several outrageously intense duels inside the Obelisk—he'd even beaten the Duel King's… AI.
Aisha: "Mr. Miles, is this the power of your ancestor that you mentioned before?!"
Such a unique and overwhelming power, felt the instant the Fusion appeared, made Aisha even more curious about Yuna Carlos, and all the more eager to take leave and go home to properly 'pay respects to her ancestors.'
"That's right, the ancestor's card! I activate the effect of [Starving Venom Fusion Dragon]!"
[This card's effect can only be activated during the turn it is Fusion Summoned using only monsters on the field as materials. This card gains ATK until the end of the turn equal to the total ATK of all Special Summoned monsters your opponent controls.]
"Absorb the Attack of [Ursarctic Septentrion]! Starving Venom Fangs!"
[Starving Venom Fusion Dragon, ATK: 2800 → 5800]
With a final Attack of 5800, the Synchro Dragon and Fusion Dragon roared side by side.
A special mech weapon capable of sealing Xyz effects might be a massive threat to the Xyz-centric Holy Varian Empire; yet, to Miles… his arsenal of weapons was still more than sufficient!
