Chapter 1263 - 1238: Playing Along
Ye Chen was touched by this middle-aged man’s filial piety towards his mother, considering her in every situation. He clearly knew how serious the consequences would be if the man’s mother found out about this matter; after all, no mother would want her child to engage in illegal activities.
Moreover, if the mother knew her child did all this just for her, she definitely wouldn’t continue staying in the hospital, and might even feel a sense of guilt.
Ye Chen couldn’t help but pity the middle-aged man, but regardless of the reasons, any wrongdoing must be punished, especially since the man’s actions broke the law, and he must face legal sanctions; otherwise, justice would not stand.
The middle-aged man felt relieved seeing Ye Chen agree to his request.
What worried him most now was his mother finding out what he did, surely she wouldn’t forgive him.
"Thank you, really, thank you so much, Mr. Ye," the middle-aged man said excitedly.
He remembered since his father passed away, his mother raised him alone through hardships. Although she couldn’t offer him a wealthy life, she taught him life lessons.
Had it not been for being cornered with no options, he would never have done that deed.
But now it’s too late, there’s no chance for redemption.
"Uncle, let’s go, why are you standing there, lead the way," Ye Chen smilingly prompted.
The middle-aged man quickly replied, "Let’s go, this way, Mr. Ye."
Ye Chen followed the middle-aged man into the hospital ward; the two people took the elevator.
Coming out of the elevator, the middle-aged man led him to a ward.
The middle-aged man tidied his clothes and adjusted his mood, then he guided Ye Chen inside.
As they entered, Ye Chen immediately saw an elderly woman with white hair lying on the hospital bed, her eyes shut tight, and pain evident on her face.
Ye Chen understood this was due to her heart condition.
Upon seeing this, the middle-aged man’s nose turned sour, he soothed his emotions and approached the elder, "Mom, I’m here to see you."
The elderly woman possibly heard her son’s call, slowly opened her eyes, and it was apparent she struggled to perform this action, showing the severity of her condition.
"Ah-Qiang, why are you here again? Didn’t you visit earlier this morning?" The elderly woman spoke breathlessly.
She looked at her son and smiled.
Ye Chen knew this elderly woman was forcing herself to keep her spirits up, just to prevent her son from worrying.
"Mom, stop talking, please rest well, I just missed you," the middle-aged man gently caressed his mother’s aging face.
Seeing his mother’s state, the middle-aged man felt indescribable heartache, he hated himself for not having the capability to relieve his closest mother’s suffering here.
In truth, he couldn’t be blamed; as a son, he was already doing his utmost.
At this moment, the elderly woman noticed the young man beside her son and hurriedly asked, "Ah-Qiang, who is this young man?"
Before the middle-aged man could speak, Ye Chen smiled and replied, "Auntie, hello, I am Uncle Qiang’s boss, Ye Chen. I heard from Uncle Qiang that you are hospitalized, so I came to visit you."
"Boss Ye, this is really inappropriate, how could you come to see me," the elderly woman tried to sit up with a flustered expression.
However, her illness left her too weak, she simply couldn’t sit up.
"Mom, what are you doing?" The middle-aged man hurriedly asked seeing his mother’s attempt.
"Ah-Qiang, help me up, your boss is here, lying like this is really improper," the elderly woman looked at her son reproachfully.
"Auntie, there’s no need to be so formal with me, Uncle Qiang has contributed so much to the company, as a boss, visiting you is the least I can do," Ye Chen said with a smile.
"How can this be, you’re the boss, my son is your employee, it’s his duty to work for the company, really thank you for letting Qiang work for your company," the elderly woman expressed her gratitude.
"Auntie, there’s no need to be so polite, we’re honored to have Uncle Qiang at our company," Ye Chen replied smilingly.
Upon hearing Ye Chen’s words, the elderly woman turned to her son and said, "Ah-Qiang, see how good your boss is, you must work diligently for the company."
"Mom, I will, don’t worry," the middle-aged man nodded.
"By the way, Auntie, how are you feeling nowadays?" Ye Chen asked with concern.
"Well, there’s nothing much, live each day as it comes. Actually, I’m indifferent, just afraid once I’m gone, Ah-Qiang would be alone in this world, Mr. Ye, I don’t fear being laughed at, if it weren’t for me, Ah-Qiang could have had a happy family," the elderly woman sighed.
This matter had been piercing her heart like a thorn, making her feel painful and even remorseful.
"Mom, how can you say that? This is really not your fault, don’t take it upon yourself," the middle-aged man comfortingly said.
"Auntie, I think Uncle Qiang is right, if his wife truly loved him, they could face anything together, if she left it’s just a sign of inadequate love. This really has nothing to do with you," Ye Chen also chimed in to comfort her.
"Well, let it be, what’s done can’t be undone, I just won’t think about it anymore," the elderly woman sighed again.
"Mom, that’s it, getting well is much more important," the middle-aged man smiled back at her.
The elderly woman knew her son was comforting her, her illness couldn’t be cured, even if treated, it required a large sum, which was beyond what people like them could afford.
"Yes, Auntie, take care of your health, other concerns can wait," Ye Chen smiled encouragingly.
At this moment, a doctor wearing a white coat walked in and asked the elderly woman, "Madam, how are you feeling?"
"Pretty good, thank you, Director Liu," the elderly lady responded smilingly.
Director Liu observed this and turned to the middle-aged man, asking, "Have you prepared your mother’s surgery fees? Her condition cannot be delayed."
"Director Liu, hello, I want to inquire about the success rate of this surgery," Ye Chen asked Director Liu.
"Well, I can’t guarantee anything, you know this isn’t a big hospital, so our medical equipment isn’t the best, and we can’t hire those very renowned experts. If the surgery succeeds, it can merely maintain the condition, not truly cure it," Director Liu replied with some embarrassment.
"What about Director Zhou Tao from Ren’ai Hospital?" Ye Chen asked casually.
Upon hearing the name, Director Liu showed a shocked expression.
