Chapter 345 Su Nuannuan wakes up
Whether or not Su Nuannuan truly understood Jinse's words, after some effort, Jinse finally managed to feed the bowl of medicine into Su Nuannuan's mouth.
"Sister Jinse is truly resourceful!" Upon seeing this, Zhixiang quickly used a handkerchief to gently wipe away the remaining medicine from the corners of Su Nuannuan's mouth, praising her as she did so.
Jinse smiled slightly and explained, "Her Majesty is only feeling unwell because of the fever, but she is still conscious. That's why she instinctively resisted drinking this bitter medicine." After saying that, she put the empty bowl aside, then picked up a small piece of candy from the table and carefully put it into Su Nuannuan's mouth.
Originally, Jinse had planned to give Su Nuannuan a candied fruit, since she had specially prepared it for her. The fruit was sweet and should help Su Nuannuan relieve the bitterness in her mouth after taking the bitter medicine.
However, after Jinse finished feeding the medicine, a moment of hesitation suddenly flashed through her mind. After all, the Empress had not yet woken up, and if she accidentally choked on the candied fruit, it would be a real problem.
After much thought, Jinse decided that sugar was safer. Although sugar wasn't as sweet as candied fruit, it melted slowly in her mouth, eliminating the risk of choking like candied fruit might.
So, Jinse decisively took out a piece of candy from her bosom and carefully put it into Su Nuannuan's mouth.
After feeding her the candy, Jinse gave Tingxue and Zhixiang a wink, and the two immediately understood. They gently laid Su Nuannuan down, letting her lie flat on the bed, and then carefully tucked her in, afraid of waking her.
After everything was arranged, Jinse turned to Zhixiang and whispered, "Zhixiang, go to the small kitchen and prepare some light porridge. Her Majesty should wake up in about half an hour after taking her medicine."
Zhixiang nodded quickly and replied, "Okay, I'll do it right away." After saying that, she quickly stood up from the bedside, walked lightly out of the room, and headed straight for the small kitchen.
Time passed slowly, and after about half an hour, Su Nuannuan finally woke up.
"Your Majesty, you're awake." Tingxue, who had been keeping watch by the bedside, was overjoyed to see her mistress open her eyes. She quickly got up and asked with a face full of surprise.
"What's wrong with me?" Su Nuannuan said weakly, as if all her strength had been drained away, and even speaking was very difficult.
"Your Majesty, please don't speak, just rest." Tingxue quickly helped Su Nuannuan up and gently comforted her, "Your Majesty, you have a fever. Sister Jinse said it's because you've been overworked."
Su Nuannuan nodded slightly, indicating that she had heard Tingxue's words. She felt dizzy and lightheaded, as if a large rock was pressing down on her head, and she felt extremely uncomfortable.
"Your Highness, please lean against the headboard for a moment. I'll go get you a cup of water." Tingxue carefully helped Su Nuannuan lean against the headboard, then quickly walked to the table, picked up the teapot, and poured a cup of warm water.
Tingxue, holding a water glass, turned around and quickly walked to Su Nuannuan's bedside, handed her the glass, then reached out and touched Su Nuannuan's forehead, saying softly, "Your Majesty, your fever has finally subsided."
"Your Majesty, please have some water to soothe your throat," Tingxue said softly, bringing the glass of water to Su Nuannuan's lips.
Su Nuannuan slightly parted her lips and drank a few sips of warm water. The warm water slid down her throat, making her feel refreshed and a little more energetic.
"Your Highness, please rest first. This servant will go and tell Sister Jinse and Zhixiang that Your Highness has woken up," Tingxue said with a smile as she watched Su Nuannuan finish drinking the water.
Su Nuannuan nodded, signaling Tingxue to go quickly.
Tingxue turned and walked out of the room, heading straight for the small kitchen. Jinse and Zhixiang were both in the small kitchen; Zhixiang was simmering a pot of steaming porridge in front of the stove, while Jinse was brewing medicine beside her.
"Sister Jinse, Zhixiang, Her Majesty is awake!" Tingxue called out loudly as soon as she entered the small kitchen, her voice filled with joy, just like a cheerful little bird.
Upon hearing this good news, Zhixiang's face immediately lit up with a joyful smile. She quickly replied, "Perfect timing! Her Majesty's porridge has just been cooked. Please take it to Her Majesty immediately."
Tingxue walked quickly to the stove, carefully picked up the bowl of steaming vegetable porridge, afraid of spilling a single drop.
Jinse continued to fan the charcoal fire with a palm-leaf fan to make the fire burn brighter so that the medicine could be brewed faster. She turned to Tingxue and instructed, "Tingxue, fevers are prone to relapse, so you must take good care of the Empress. Once I've finished brewing this pot of medicine, I'll send it to the Empress immediately."
"I understand, Sister Jinse, I will definitely take good care of Her Majesty." Tingxue readily agreed and happily carried the vegetable porridge towards Su Nuannuan's room.
When Tingxue returned to the room with the vegetable porridge, she was surprised to find her mistress preparing to get out of bed. Her heart tightened, and she quickly put down the bowl of porridge, rushing to Su Nuannuan's side. She reached out and pressed Su Nuannuan down, anxiously saying, "Your Highness, your fever has just subsided, how can you get out of bed so soon?"
Su Nuannuan smiled weakly and explained gently, "It's alright. I've been in bed all night and all morning and I feel much better. I just want to get out of bed and walk around a bit to stretch my muscles."
"Your Majesty, please listen to me! We won't get out of bed. Sister Jinse said that Your Majesty's fever might recur. For your health, we should go back to bed first," Tingxue earnestly persuaded, her tone as if she were coaxing a child.
However, Su Nuannuan didn't seem to appreciate it. She tugged tightly at Tingxue's sleeve and said coquettishly, "Tingxue, I don't want to lie down anymore. If I keep lying like this, my bones will fall apart! Please let me get up and walk around for a little while, just a little bit, okay?"
Tingxue looked at Su Nuannuan with some helplessness, muttering to herself: Why has her mistress suddenly become like a child? She couldn't help but wonder if someone had switched her mistress while she was away.
“Your Majesty, please stop fussing. If you get out of bed now and your fever relapses, you'll have to stay in bed even longer,” Tingxue continued patiently. “You would have been better in one night, but if you get out of bed for a walk, you'll end up having to stay in bed for a couple more days. Your Majesty is so wise, you can surely see through this calculation!”
