Chapter 17 The Missing Elsa
Chapter 17 The Missing Elsa
The rest of the homicide squad went to the hospital to protect the unconscious woman.
If that woman comes back to life, then they will have hope of solving the case.
When Lu Yiming suggested visiting the missing person's home, Marcus agreed without hesitation and even arranged for Mia to accompany him.
In his eyes, Lu Yiming is now a treasure boy who can bring him surprises.
In the police car, Lu Yiming sat in the back seat.
"Why does the boss always make you follow me around?"
Mia glared at him: "What, you're not satisfied with me? I'll turn around and go back right now to get you a different policewoman."
Lu Yiming nodded: "Okay, let's get someone with big breasts and a perky butt."
squeak--
Another sudden stop.
Lu Yiming's nose slammed hard against the back of the front seat.
"Ouch..."
He rubbed his sore nose and silently fastened his seatbelt.
She's such a stingy and domineering woman.
……
Elsa Cohen's family lives in a slum in Fremont.
Cohen is her husband's surname; in the United States, most women choose to take their husband's surname after marriage.
As soon as Lu Yiming got out of the car, a smell mixed with the stench of rotting garbage, urine, and leaves hit him.
Several young Black men leaning against the iron gate kept staring at them.
Black garbage bags were piled up on both sides of the street, and several skinny stray dogs were rummaging through them for food.
Several people with vacant eyes were huddled in the corner, it was hard to tell whether they were high on drugs or drunk.
The dilapidated walls were covered with graffiti and bullet holes.
This is gang territory.
Lu Yiming and Mia, dressed in police uniforms, were quite conspicuous.
All eyes turned to them, filled with vigilance and hostility.
"Mia, you'd better protect me. I didn't bring a gun."
Mia ignored him and went to Elsa's house according to the address.
After knocking, the door opened a crack, but no one answered.
The two looked down and saw a skinny little Black girl standing behind the door, looking up at them.
"Is there anything I can help you with?" the girl asked softly.
Lu Yiming forced a friendly smile and stepped forward.
He felt that his handsome face was more approachable than Mia's cold face.
"We are police officers. Are any adults home?"
The girl sized them up for a few seconds: "Are you the pigs Daddy talked about?"
Lu Yiming's lips twitched. "I'm not! Not yet, Mia is."
"Daddy! A pig is looking for you!"
The girl turned and called out into the house, then stepped aside to let the two of them in.
The room was cleaner than I had imagined.
Empty beer cans were piled up in the corner, messy but neatly arranged.
The girl pointed to the living room, then turned and went to the kitchen.
She was too short to reach the stove, and was struggling to stand on tiptoe to reach for the gas stove switch.
Lu Yiming and Mia entered the living room.
Unlike the clean corridor, this place was a complete garbage dump.
Dirty clothes, fast food containers, and empty wine bottles were scattered everywhere.
The air was thick with the smells of sweat and alcohol.
A burly black man, weighing at least 300 pounds, was sprawled on the sofa, his belly spilling out of his vest.
He held a bottle of liquor in his left hand and popcorn in his right, his eyes glued to the horse race on TV.
"Run! Damn it! Run! Fxxk! We lost again! It must have been a fixed match!"
Mia stepped forward: "Fremont police officer. Are you Mr. Cohen?"
The man then turned his head, his face full of fat, food crumbs stuck to the corners of his mouth, making him look disgusting.
"How did you get in? Damn it, Talia! Who let you in?!"
Without even glancing at their identification, he tried to kick them out, shouting, "This is my house! Get out!"
Lu Yiming cursed inwardly.
Damn, now I know why Mike hates niggers so much.
"We're looking for your wife, Elsa. Is she there?"
"That bitch ran away a month ago!" the man cursed as he shoved her. "Damn it, if she doesn't go out and sell herself, am I supposed to starve?"
The two were pushed outwards by brute force.
As they approached the door, the man's large body bumped into the little girl who was carrying water out.
wow-
Water spilled all over the floor, and the cup shattered.
The man raised his leg and kicked, yelling, "Useless thing! I've wasted my time raising you! Clean yourself up!"
"When you're older, I'll make you sell yourself like your mother!"
Lu Yiming's eyes turned cold; he could no longer hold back.
Mia drew her Glock from her waist and pressed the muzzle against the man's forehead.
"Go back." His voice was calm.
The man froze instantly, raising his hands above his head and staring wide-eyed.
"Officer... let's talk this out..."
Offense and defense can easily shift.
Lu Yiming held the gun to the man and retreated step by step back into the living room.
Mia looked at him with some surprise. This kid, so wild now?
Lu Yiming didn't care. Mike pointed a gun at a reporter and nothing happened, so the police should cover for him, right?
When did Elsa disappear?
"About two weeks ago..." the man swallowed hard, "she said she was going to make money, and she never came back..."
"Had she acted strangely before?"
"What could be wrong? My face is ruined, so I can't sell it for a good price. And my disability allowance has been suspended for so long. I can only collect scraps..."
Lu Yiming and Mia exchanged a glance.
"I want to search this place."
"No problem! Bro! Search whatever you want!" The man's expression changed instantly, and he grinned, revealing two rows of yellow teeth.
"Won't they sue us for illegal intrusion?"
"No way! I did it voluntarily!"
Lu Yiming then handed the gun back to Mia.
The two began their search. The house was small, with the three of them crammed into one bedroom.
One large bed and one small bed.
The bedroom was tidy; it must have been cleaned by that little girl named Talia.
"The women's clothes are all in the closet. Elsa must have just gone out temporarily and then been kidnapped," Mia said after checking.
Lu Yiming had hoped to find information about the cult Lazarus here.
He was disappointed to learn that Elsa didn't have any tattoos and there was nothing with Lazarus's image in her home.
He turned to look at a family photo on the table.
Elsa wasn't disfigured yet, and she had a shy smile. The man wasn't as fat either. Talia, in the middle, had a small braid and bright eyes.
The other photo is a group photo, showing about a dozen people huddled together at a gathering. The caption reads:
"Fremont Handicapped Fellowship".
"It seems that Elsa often attends mutual aid groups."
At that moment, Talia carefully walked in carrying two glasses of water.
"Brother Pig and Sister Pig, please have some water."
Lu Yiming was amused by her. He squatted down, took the water glass, and ruffled the girl's hair.
This little girl was quite well-behaved; it's a pity.
Talia blinked.
"Brother Pig, you've come to find Mommy. If you find her, can you give her back to me?"
Lu Yiming lowered his head, ultimately unable to bring himself to tell her that her mother might not be coming back.
"You have to call them Officer Lu and Officer Rockefeller. Don't call them pigs."
The little girl's eyes darted around. "Okay, Officer Lu~"
"Ah~" Lu Yiming felt a surge of joy.
"Say it again~"
Talia tilted her head, somewhat confused, but still obediently called out again.
"Officer Lu?!"
"Ah~"
"What, you changed your surname?" Mia interrupted his shameless behavior without any mercy.
Lu Yiming ignored her sarcasm and nodded in satisfaction.
Normally, people would just call him piglet, not even close to being called a pig.
He then noticed that the little girl had many bruises on her body.
Using his abilities, he could tell at a glance that some were from last week, some from last month, and some were even from a year ago.
She was so young then, having lost her mother and been subjected to domestic violence.
"Eh..." He paused for a few seconds, took out a brown paper envelope, pulled out two Franklin notes, thought for a moment, then pulled out three more and stuffed them into the girl's hand.
"Don't tell your father, hide this well."
There's not much he can do.
In such families, when the girls get older, they are very likely to be sold to gangsters or pimps.
Can he be a superhero? That's the job of the Avengers.
He doesn't have the ability to abstain from beef, nor can he shoulder such a heavy responsibility.
Mia glanced at him in surprise: "I didn't realize you could be so human sometimes."
Lu Yiming rolled his eyes.
What are you talking about? If I'm not human, then what am I?
The girl held five banknotes, tilted her head, and seemed not to recognize what they were.
"Officer Lu, why did you say the same things as Mom before you left, and why did you give me the same things?"
