Chapter 19 The Black Judge
Chapter 19 The Black Judge
"Mo Fan, you haven't come to check on me at all in a month in Qiantang City?" Tang Yue said coquettishly.
"How could I dare? I've been so focused on controlling Xingzi lately that I haven't had time to think about anything else. Does Sister Tang Yue have a mission?" Mo Fan asked.
"Can't I contact you if I don't have a mission?"
"Yes, of course! Sister Tang Yue, you're my boss!"
"I'm tracking a murderer named Chao He, and we're short-handed right now. Although you just broke through to the intermediate level, you should be fine just following along and monitoring him. I'll deal with Chao He myself," Tang Yue explained, while sending Chao He's information to Mo Fan's phone.
"Chao He is indeed quite ruthless." Mo Fan looked at Chao He's file.
"Sister Tang Yue, why don't you leave Chao He to me?" Mo Fan suggested.
"You? I have a hard time dealing with Chao He, how could you?" Tang Yue questioned.
"I have helpers, the free kind," Mo Fan said with a smile.
"Alright, be careful, don't lose your life," Tang Yue instructed. Capturing Chao He wasn't a particularly important task; it was perfectly acceptable for Mo Fan to practice on.
"Don't worry, my helper is very reliable." Mo Fan hung up the phone and immediately headed to Xishui Town to take over Tang Yue's task of tracking Chao He.
Mo Fan disguised himself as a young man taking his younger sister out for a trip. The younger sister was naturally the petite and adorable Man Sui. She didn't like staying in the Netherworld now, so Mo Fan would let her out whenever he had the chance. At this moment, Man Sui was riding on Mo Fan's shoulders, holding a strawberry-flavored lollipop in her hand.
Mo Fan and Chao He followed behind Chao He. Putting everything else aside, judging from his appearance alone, Chao He didn't look like an evil killer; he looked more like a refined scoundrel.
Mo Fan and Man Sui saw Chao He enter a barren field. The water in the field had long since dried up because a fire-type spirit seed had emerged from the stream, cutting off the water source. Chao He was also a fire-type mage, and his target was this fire-type spirit seed.
After talking with the old farmer, Chao He learned the location of the upstream of the stream and then headed upstream. There was no cover on the roadside, so Mo Fan and Man Sui disappeared into the shadows.
Mo Fan's Shadow magic is at the beginner level three, which is more than enough to track a mid-level mage without worrying about being discovered.
As they continued upstream, the plants on both sides of the stream began to wither, a sign of severe water shortage. Seeing this, Mo Fan realized that the wild fire-type spirit seed was indeed located upstream.
This good stuff was obviously prepared for Mo Fan, and Mo Fan wasn't planning to capture Chao He alive. He would just torture him and then kill him, since he couldn't get any valuable information out of such a nobody.
Not long after they left, Mo Fan and Man Sui encountered a group of hunter mages. A shadow the size of a leaf followed behind the hunter mages, and Chao He had already hidden himself.
The source of the stream was a small reservoir, which had now completely dried up. It wasn't just the group of hunter mages who discovered this place; four members of the Eastern Family also found it.
People die for wealth, birds die for food; a team of ten hunter mages would never allow the fire spirit seed to be given to these four people from the Eastern families, and the two teams immediately clashed.
The Eastern Family had four mid-level mages, while the Hunter Mage team had three mid-level mages and seven beginner mages. The two teams fought back and forth, but the four members of the Eastern Family had an advantage in magical artifacts over the Hunter Mage team. In the end, the four members of the Eastern Family drove the Hunter Mage team away.
However, losing this fire-type spirit seed is not necessarily a bad thing, as the four members of the Dongfang family are about to lose their lives.
Just as the four members of the Dongfang family were discussing how to divide the fire-type spirit seed, Chao He, who had disappeared, reappeared. In front of the four, Chao He revealed his identity as a wanted criminal of the Inquisition and also told them that he had been a ghoul.
Hit by Chao He's mid-level level three curse magic, the lives of the four members of the Dongfang family were slowly slipping away. Curse magic is still too much of a problem for ordinary mid-level mages; they could only struggle if they had light magic.
Watching the four members of the Dongfang family lose their lives, Mo Fan felt no emotion. Theoretically, as a glorious judge, Mo Fan had an obligation to save people, but whether or not to save them was up to him.
Mo Fan found these people agreeable and could help them out. If he didn't, he wouldn't bear any responsibility. He was the only judge here, and even if someone discovered it, as long as the task was completed, he would only receive a few innocuous criticisms.
Whatever happens afterward, just listen and see. Mo Fan isn't some newborn calf; if you have to say, he's a bit cunning.
"If you kill us, the Dongfang family will not let you off the hook!" threatened the man among the four, named Dongfang Jun.
"That's ridiculous. Do you think I, a wanted criminal from the Inquisition, would be afraid of someone from the Eastern Family?" Chao He looked at the four of them as if they were idiots.
The four members of the Dongfang family were quickly drained of their souls. Chao He's gaze shifted to the bottom of the reservoir. Suddenly, with a huge roar, crimson flames surged from the ground, like a small volcanic eruption.
Upon seeing the crimson rose flames, Chao He's smile almost twisted. "The smile of a perverted killer is truly ugly!" A man's voice came from behind Chao He.
"Who is it? Get out here!" Chao He's smile immediately vanished.
"The trial will arrest the wanted criminals. Surrender immediately, or you'll suffer a fate worse than death." Mo Fan emerged from the woods with a somewhat ferocious smile, while Man Sui remained perched on his neck.
"Oh, this is the first time I've ever seen a judge bring his whole family along to carry out any trial." Chao He laughed wildly, sensing that Mo Fan's cultivation level was no higher than his own.
"Bringing your family along is not important. Will you surrender or not?" Mo Fan put Man Sui down. To prevent Chao He from using his curse magic, he only walked a few steps out of the woods, dozens of meters away from Chao He.
"Surrender? What a joke! If you've got the guts, then make your move. I bet you won't even dare to take a step closer, hahaha!" Chao He laughed, but in his mind he was thinking about whether there were any other judges around. This young man was so far away from him that his curse magic wouldn't be able to hit Mo Fan.
"Do I need to get close to capture you?" Mo Fan was very confident. Chao He's soul would be a great tonic for Mo Fan's three undead.
"Gan, Wen, Cui!"
As Mo Fan's voice fell, three black-armored undead over five meters tall appeared around Chao He. These three undead skeletons, at the level of generals, were covered in thick black armor and each held a giant long-handled spiked club.
Gan, Wen, and Cui didn't exude a strong aura of death. What Chao He sensed most was their chilling killing intent. "Necromantic!" Chao He uttered the words with difficulty, and Mo Fan saw a hint of panic in his eyes.
"Well!"
The low growls of the undead echoed as Gan, Wen, and Cui surrounded and attacked Chao He from three directions. The ground trembled continuously as Chao He summoned his magical armor—the Rock Army Armor.
The heavy armor provided him with no sense of security. Gan's giant spiked club struck Chao He first, and Chao He was unable to cast a mid-level spell in this close combat.
