Chapter 48 Escape from Arkham
Chapter 48 Escape from Arkham
Using the communicator given to him by Levi, Robin told him about her discoveries over the past few days.
"You mean, Klein often goes to the storeroom alone at night?"
"Yes, Mr. Li Wei, I am absolutely not mistaken."
Robin's discovery gave Levi a jolt; there was definitely something wrong with the storage room!
"That storage room is most likely a decoy; I suspect that's where Klein's lab is located."
After only a brief analysis, Li Wei concluded that Klein's laboratory was in the storeroom. "Robin, I need you to sneak in and take a look to find out what's going on inside."
Safety is the top priority, of course. If there's no other way, we'll think of another one.
Robin did not resist Levi's arrangement in the slightest, and as for finding other ways, that was simply not an option in Robin's dictionary.
He patiently waited for his opportunity, and finally, late on the sixth night, he quietly slipped out of the ward during a break between prison guard shifts.
Using his skillful stealth techniques, he evaded the patrolling guards and approached the storage room according to his memory.
"Hey buddy, your earnings must be pretty good lately, right?"
"Don't talk about me, you're the same way. Dr. Klein isn't a petty person."
"Yes, Dr. Klein has probably struck it rich recently. He earns a considerable income just by guarding the gate. I can keep doing this job."
"Doing work? I'm more like Dr. Klein's ammunition, letting you 'do' that slut in the backstreet."
The two guards smoked and chatted, joking with each other.
Seeing that the two were in good spirits, Robin quietly hid in the shadows in a corner, waiting for an opportunity to sneak in.
A series of "tap tap tap" sounds came from behind, and the two guards stopped and looked up.
"Thank you both for your hard work today, please get some rest."
Klein's voice came through, which cheered Robin up.
He peeked out and saw Klein give each of the two guards an envelope before opening the iron gate and going inside.
The two guards, satisfied with their payment, left the storeroom.
After they left, Robin waited a while longer.
After confirming that no one was coming, they went around to the ventilation duct on the side of the storage room.
He carefully pried open the ventilation duct and quietly climbed inside.
As for not going through the door, it was obviously because they were worried that Klein might have set a trap there.
Robin didn't believe that Klein, a cautious and careful person, would make such a basic mistake.
The ventilation ducts were narrow, dark, and covered in dust and cobwebs.
Robin crawled forward cautiously, hearing the sounds of machinery and indistinct voices around him.
Following the sound, Robin climbed to a ventilation shaft and gently parted the corroded and loose grille to look down.
When he saw the scene below, even though he considered himself worldly-wise, he couldn't help but widen his eyes in astonishment.
Below is a spacious laboratory, filled with various precision instruments and experimental equipment.
The lab bench was filled with test tubes and beakers containing blue liquid, the blue color eerie and alluring, and a faint sweet and fishy smell permeated the air.
Klein was wearing a lab coat and holding a syringe filled with blue liquid.
On the experimental chair in front of him, a patient was bound hand and foot, gagged with a cloth, and his eyes were filled with fear.
With a blank expression, Klein inserted the syringe into the patient's arm and then slowly injected the blue liquid.
In just a few seconds, the patient's body convulsed violently, and his eyes became unfocused and crazed.
He struggled desperately, but because his hands and feet were tied, he could only look at Brian in terror, unable to do anything.
Seeing the patient's terrified expression, Klein nodded in satisfaction and then pressed a button.
Soon an iron fence came down, imprisoning the patient inside like a prison.
Klein pressed the button again, and the straps binding the patient's hands and feet loosened.
After regaining his freedom, the patient looked at Klein in horror, then tore off the strip of cloth.
"Don't come any closer! You monster! Please don't come any closer!"
The patient screamed and desperately rushed towards the wall, crying, "Don't come any closer! Oh God, please save me..."
He tried to get as far away from Klein as possible, and in an attempt to escape, he began frantically banging his head and body against the wall.
However, despite his best efforts, the alloy wall remained completely unmoved.
The patient quickly became exhausted and could only frantically scratch at the wall with his hands, soon leaving streaks of blood on the wall.
The agitated patient huddled in the corner, trembling with fear, a pool of yellowish-brown liquid slowly seeping out beneath him.
The scene before him terrified Robin, and he finally understood how those gangsters had become "mentally deranged."
If I'm not mistaken, those guys are exhibiting "mental instability" because they were injected with this blue liquid.
Recovering from the shock, Robin tried to return along the pipe, but accidentally bumped into the metal pipe, making a soft "clang" sound.
"Who?" Klein turned around abruptly, his gaze behind his glasses sharp as a knife, instantly locking onto the air vent.
Knowing he had been exposed, Robin immediately turned around and crawled out along the ventilation duct.
Listening to the sounds coming from the tube, Klein picked up a syringe and then slowly walked out of the laboratory.
He walked to the door and pressed a button. The laboratory door slowly closed, concealing all the evil.
Robin crawled frantically through the pipes, his only thought was to get out of this hellish place and bring the message back.
The sound of footsteps beneath him followed him closely, his location constantly pinpointed.
In the distance, the sound of hurried footsteps could be heard, interspersed with occasional barks from dogs.
The shouts grew closer, and Robin's heart sank.
Just when Robin thought he was doomed, a light suddenly appeared in front of him.
He increased his crawling speed and found himself unknowingly crawling to an exit.
Perhaps because of the pipeline route, he could hear the voices of the pursuing guards were still some distance away.
Before he could even feel the relief of surviving a disaster, a voice suddenly came from behind the pipe.
Robin quickly kicked open the grille and jumped down, then used his hands to push himself up onto the Arkham wall.
Looking at the scenery outside the wall, Robin felt relieved, but he didn't notice the syringe being shot at him from behind.
By the time he realized what was happening, the syringe filled with blue medicine had already been injected into him.
Sensing something amiss, Robin immediately pulled out the syringe, then leaped off the wall and began to run for his life.
"Dr. Klein, what just happened?"
A guard rushed up to Klein and asked what had just happened.
If Robin were here, he would have discovered that the guy questioning Klein was one of the two guards who had just been on duty.
"Oh, God knows what happened."
Klein's face showed a timely look of horror. "I was giving this patient psychological intervention when he suddenly started attacking me."
If I hadn't reacted quickly, I probably would have been...
Klein sighed deeply at this point, "Since he's already run away, for safety's sake, we might as well just let it go."
Hearing what the patron Klein said, the guards were naturally happy to have some free time.
The guard took out his walkie-talkie and immediately notified the pursuing personnel to turn back.
Robin, of course, knew nothing of what was happening in the asylum; all he knew was to run forward as fast as he could.
Only in this way could he evade the pursuit of the Arkham guards!
