Chapter 66 Capturing Klein
Chapter 66 Capturing Klein
In the hallway, Klein had just turned the corner when he saw Batman looking completely at ease.
He stood tall and straight, and through the black bat mask, one could see his deep blue eyes.
In Klein's plan, those eyes should have been glazed over and filled with terror, but they were now perfectly clear.
In those clear eyes, Klein saw anger, disgust, and mockery.
Klein confirmed he wasn't mistaken; he did indeed see a hint of mockery in Batman's eyes.
"You...how are you alright..."
Klein looked at Batman, whose eyes were cold, and stammered out a pointless question.
Realizing what had happened, he immediately turned and ran upstairs.
If the poison gas doesn't work, even ten of him wouldn't be enough to defeat Batman.
Klein rushed upstairs to his room, now filled with regret for taking the risk himself.
Under the pressure of fear, Klein felt he was unleashing his full potential.
As they got closer to the room, they heard no footsteps behind them.
All of this gradually eased the tense expression on Klein's face.
As long as he can rush back to his room, even if it only buys him a few minutes, he is confident he can escape.
With the room just a step away, Klein's face broke into a smile of relief.
But the smile didn't last long. Soon, Klein stood there in terror, his hands tightly covering his neck.
Despite his best efforts, he was still entangled in the steel cable fired from the hook gun.
"No, Batman, you can't do that!"
A person's reputation precedes them, and Batman in Gotham truly enjoys a stellar reputation.
Before Klein could finish speaking, he felt the steel cable around his neck being pulled back suddenly.
If someone were standing nearby, they would have noticed Klein being suddenly pulled back to Batman's side.
"Oh no, Batman, you can't do that!"
Klein's voice had become somewhat mechanical after being masked by a special gas mask, but the fear in it was still palpable.
Ignoring Klein's nonsense, Batman simply tied him up like a dumpling.
"Tell me, where is the controller!"
"I can tell you, but you have to let me go..."
Just as Klein was about to use this as an excuse to bargain with Batman, he was slapped across the face.
"If you don't talk now, I'll rip off your ridiculous scarecrow costume."
Batman's voice was low and menacing. "Then I'll hang you from the top of Gotham City's tallest building, so everyone can see what a pathetic wretch you are!"
"You...you bastard, you demon!"
Batman's words triggered Klein's reaction. The thought of being naked and exposed to the public made him tremble uncontrollably.
"Please, please let me go. The controller is in my pocket. There are two buttons; just press the blue one..."
Driven by fear, Klein spoke rapidly.
Batman carried him and first turned off the ventilation system, then went down to the 5th floor platform and pressed the blue button.
The countdown on the launcher had less than a minute left, and then it all stopped with a "beep".
"Batman, I've done as you said... Please let me go..."
"Let you go?"
Batman glanced at Klein, and amidst Klein's terrified scream, Batman ripped off the specially made gas mask from his face.
"You bastard, you demon! You'll die a horrible death!"
Klein had just uttered a couple of curses when, as he inhaled the fear gas, his eyes first became glazed over, then filled with terror.
"Don't come any closer, you monster!"
Despite Klein's desperate struggles, he was bound by steel cables and had no way to escape.
By the end, Klein's voice was trembling with sobs.
Ignoring the erratic Klein, Batman simply took out his communicator and dialed Levi's number.
...
At the entrance of the broadcast tower.
"Batman, how's it going?"
Li Wei took out his communicator and immediately asked Batman how he was doing.
"I've caught the scarecrow, and all the launching devices have stopped."
Batman maintained his indifferent tone, "You'll be able to come in and clean up the mess in about half an hour."
"And what about you?"
Hearing Klein's screams coming through the communicator, Levi couldn't help but ask Batman about his next plan.
"Me? I have something to take care of, so I won't be meeting with you."
Hearing the busy tone from the communicator, Li Wei was completely bewildered. What on earth was this guy trying to do?
Just as Li Wei put the communicator back in his pocket, he heard a gasp from the person next to him.
Following the direction the officers were pointing, they saw Batman carrying something and moving quickly between buildings.
"What exactly is this guy trying to do?"
Gordon also heard the conversation on the communicator. As soon as he walked over, he saw a scene that left him speechless.
...
Early the next morning.
An avid citizen who follows current events got up early and bought a copy of the Gotham Times at a newsstand.
This is Gotham's largest and most well-informed newspaper, reportedly owned by the Wayne Enterprises.
Although communication technology is not outdated, many people still like to buy a newspaper before going to work.
But as soon as he opened the newspaper and saw the headline, he was stunned and opened his mouth wide.
—A naked man was found hanging from a building next to the Gotham City Police Department last night.
The scene was empty, except for Batman's unique mark—the batarang.
And this figure hanging on the building's facade is none other than Dr. Klein, the infamous figure from Arkham, and the scarecrow that terrified the entire city of Gotham last night.
Soon, the news that the Scarecrow was Dr. Klein of Arkham Prison spread like wildfire, and people talked about it with great interest, using it as a topic of conversation.
As the dust settled, the public gradually shifted their focus away from the incident.
After all, life goes on, and whether the Scarecrow takes over Gotham or not has no impact on their miserable lives.
...
Li Wei has been very busy these past two days, or rather, extremely busy; he's practically never on the go.
After Klein, or rather Scarecrow, was captured, although the crisis in Gotham was temporarily averted, he still had other things to do in the next few days.
During this time, the Gotham City Police Department and Batman joined forces to launch a full-scale purge of Maroney's remaining forces.
Using the clues they had gathered beforehand, they encountered almost no resistance and wiped out all of Maroni's men.
The police station was overcrowded, but they could only proceed with the prosecution according to procedure. Gotham's messed-up judicial system infuriated Li Wei.
Although Maroni himself has not yet been captured, everyone believes it is only a matter of time.
Klein was once again locked up in Arkham Asylum. To prevent a repeat of what happened last time, Levi and his team made some special preparations.
After negotiations, the mental hospital agreed to arrange a contactless ward for Klein.
In short, no one will have contact with him in his hospital room anymore.
The area where he was located also had its ventilation system upgraded and toxin filters installed to ensure that he could no longer cause chaos.
The most urgent thing facing Li Wei and his team right now is to issue an arrest warrant for Maroney.
