Chapter 28 Time to Get Down to Business
Chapter 28 Time to Get Down to Business
When the Tiger Claw Gang caused trouble in their territory, they were the first to arrive and seal it off.
But when they got out of the car and saw the collapsed signboard and heard the muffled thunder coming from inside, they did not hesitate to call the police.
After all, even the lives of thugs matter, and nobody wanted to go in and try—that madman who treated Night City like a war zone, bombarding it with heavy weapons, and wearing a Batman mask.
"That madman is inside. Surround the area well, don't let even a fly get out. The rest can wait for the cops to go and die."
The gang leader, holding his Kenshin submachine gun, hid behind the car and pointed at the nightclub's exit and windows.
Li Wei was looking for him, but in order to avoid being riddled with bullets, he had no choice but to engage in a sniper duel with the Tiger Claw gang who had blocked the road with their vehicles.
Leaning against the second-floor window, he pulled out one of his only two sniper rifles, leaned out, and fired at them without even aiming.
Then several heart-wrenching screams were heard.
"RPG!"
Boom, boom, boom! Several explosions rang out in succession, and one car was even blown several meters into the air.
Taking advantage of the explosion, he put away the sniper rifle that was out of ammunition, took out a grenade launcher, and jumped off the second floor. He scanned for any movement with his prosthetic eye and fired a shot.
With such a spectacle, none of the residents of Night City dared to join in, so they weren't afraid of being accidentally injured.
Several explosions and a few grenades blasted Xiao Rizi, who had been hiding behind cover calling for her mother, into the air. Li Wei, who had cleared the way, slowly stepped out of the now deserted street corner, intending to find a place to change his clothes.
After walking a few steps, he saw a fat cop on the opposite street staring at him in disbelief, holding a Coke and a hamburger. Li Wei stopped and gave him a thumbs up while carrying a grenade launcher.
The officer threw down what he was holding and ran away.
Li Wei shook his head. This year's cops are really bad; they didn't even greet Batman when they saw him.
A few minutes later, the NCPD's sirens were quite a nuisance, and at least one or two hundred police officers with weapons were patrolling the surrounding streets, while police hovercraft were also patrolling back and forth with searchlights on.
But Li Wei had already changed his clothes and was walking down the street with the plastic bag containing the Mewtwo belt, and no one cared. So all their efforts were in vain.
Once they were out of the police's cordon, Li Wei took out his phone and called Regina.
As soon as the other end of the phone answered, Li Wei began to speak.
"The work is done."
Then pull out your phone to avoid being deafened by the roar of the shrew on the other end.
"Yeah, I'm almost done for too. You're fucking insane, pulling out a rocket launcher. Do you think this is Dogtown's war zone? The unification war ended almost five years ago, understand? Five years! How did I end up with a lunatic like you! Don't even think about getting any more jobs from me."
Li Wei didn't seem to care. He pursed his lips and put the phone back to his ear.
"You said the same thing last time."
"This time is different!"
"Yes, you said the same thing the time before last."
"To cover up your information, I fucking blocked all the cameras in the block. Your pay is halved. I hired a few hackers to help me, and they'll deduct it from your earnings."
Regina sighed as she spoke.
"But you've satisfied the client, so I'll cover the cost. Take this money, go on a trip for a while, and calm things down. The NCPD is completely enraged by you."
"What can a few thousand dollars do? There are three of us."
"I won't take your cut. It's a round number, 27,000. Adding to the two times you did it before, you plundered everything inside each time, so you've made quite a bit. Don't try to fool me."
"Get the hell out of here right now, and don't come back for the next two years."
"Okay, okay, you're the boss, you're in charge."
They went to the Badlands to sell their spoils, then took the bus back home. By the time they got home, it was already evening, and Carl and Ryoko were already asleep in their room.
Li Wei lay on the sofa, staring at the ceiling, counting his savings of over 80,000 yuan. If he didn't squander it, it would be enough for the two of them to live a carefree life for several years.
He booked two tickets to Atlantis for Carl and the others, took out the Hyper Dream Headband and put it on himself, then lay straight on the sofa.
Early the next morning, Li Wei knocked on their door.
"Hey guys, I'm so lucky. I bought a lottery ticket next door on my way to the Mewtwo store yesterday, and I actually won! It's a trip to Atlantis, but there are only two tickets available. I've included both of yours. It's a 3 PM flight."
Carl wasn't stupid; his face immediately darkened, and under Liangzi's bewildered gaze, he dragged Li Wei towards the door.
After going outside, she grabbed Li Wei's clothes and pinned him against the wall.
"Savior, you really want to get rid of us two burdens? Don't dream. No world needs you to save it, and you don't have an army. This is just a hallucination caused by watching too many Mewtwos."
Li Wei looked at Karl indifferently.
"Yes, friend, yes. Didn't you want proof? Pack your things and drive out of town, and I'll give you proof."
.......
Badlands are full of abandoned towns. After Pedro Petrochemical discharged millions of tons of wastewater, there were hundreds of such towns around Night City, but most of the better spots were occupied by all sorts of homeless people.
They found an abandoned town. Ryoko waited in the car and in a house for Levi to summon her. Karl, on the other hand, raised his gun and pointed it at the knight who was kneeling on the ground, his face already skin and bones, looking like a corpse rather than a living person.
But seeing that the other side wasn't attacking, he shakily put away his gun, his whole body numb, and whispered something to Li Wei.
"Damn it, Li, are you really from hell? Are you one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse? Does God want you to use your devilish legion to cleanse the sinful Night City? Do you still want to be raped? If you join me now, you won't have to suffer."
She rolled her eyes at Karl.
"Read less of the Bible; there is no God in this world, otherwise I would have expelled him long ago."
Carl answered decisively.
"Where there is a devil, there is a God; I'm not blind."
Li Wei turned to look at the knight, who had begun to turn into a zombie due to the passage of time, shook his head, and tossed him a human token.
The knight patted the humanoid on his chest, and it returned to its normal human form and could speak normally again. He immediately shouted.
"Lord Ashes."
Seeing the other side transform back into human form, Karl became even more superstitious, grabbing Levi's shoulder and starting to shout.
"I knew it! The world must be so awful because hell has infiltrated it. Where are the angels? Come out and save it!"
Li Wei was speechless and simply moved Karl's hand away before replying.
"Stop talking nonsense. There are no angels in this world, only me, the great demon king. Now get out of here right now."
He pointed at the knight and said.
"Ken, you wait here. I'll come back to you later."
They dragged the already delirious Karl into the car.
At the airport, Li Wei transferred all the money he had on him, watched the two of them turn back every few steps, and waved.
Once he was out of sight, he tossed the car keys Carl had left behind, turned around, and drove away.
Time to get down to business, starting with conquering this barren land.
