Chapter 14 Li Wei's Instructor
Chapter 14 Li Wei's Instructor
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
In the presidential suite on the top floor of the Clarion Hotel on Northwest 42nd Avenue in Miami, Li Wei held up the latest electro-optical telescope and silently gazed at the petite figure at the airport entrance.
A lively smile, a crisp military uniform, and... two trouser legs folded over the wheelchair.
"Give it to the big guy, I can still manage."
She gave up the last anti-inflammatory injection on the battlefield, which led to the amputation of both her legs, and even... because the stumps were too short, she couldn't even fit a prosthetic leg.
Four years have passed... Li Wei still doesn't know how to face this person who would make dumplings for him and who lost both legs to save him.
"Damn it! These rich people!"
Wesker's voice brought Levi back to his senses.
He frowned.
It's not that I dislike Wesker, it's that I dislike myself.
At this moment, he should not dwell on past memories and guilt, but rather prepare for battle.
Levi put down his binoculars, ignoring Wesker who was enjoying a sofa massage while smoking a cigar, and instead focused his attention on the large screen in the living room.
47 frames.
22 sniper positions, 11 route maps, and 14 emergency response plans.
This was his most important "work result" over the past three days.
Li Wei tapped a few times on the keyboard, and the 22 sniping positions became 19.
Zhang Qiu and his team have successfully boarded the vehicle, and the three sniper positions at Miami International Airport can be eliminated.
But this doesn't even count as passing the first hurdle.
At least, it will be relatively safe once they successfully check into the hotel and the observation area is fixed.
"Walk."
Without uttering a single wasted word, Li Wei got up and left.
Wesker, who had just been enjoying himself, didn't say much. He stubbed out the Cuban cigar Thomas had given him, got up, and followed.
The two went directly to the rooftop through the VIP passage, where a Bell 407 rescue helicopter was on the helipad, ready to take off at any time.
After Levi and Wesker boarded the plane, they hadn't even had time to put on their headsets before the plane took off.
"Damn it! Is everyone in the Delta region so disrespectful to the elderly these days?"
Wesker, who wasn't properly seated, was nearly thrown off.
The driver responded by giving him the middle finger and swearing.
"Damn it! You took down all four of us in one minute and thirty-two seconds, you old man? Old man my ass!"
Wesker was pleased and, no longer bothered by the matter, picked up the electric telescope and began to perform his duties as an observer.
Li Wei, however, was not in the mood to watch this spectacle. Instead, he took out the precision sniper rifle that he had prepared beforehand.
"AI AXMC? Are you planning to shoot the assassin in two?"
Wesker couldn't help but exclaim in amazement when he saw the gun for the first time.
"Focus on the task."
With his gaze fixed on the scope, Levi calmly reminded Wesker, even slowing his breathing considerably.
This made him seem not to be very nervous.
However, Wesker, who knew Levi to some extent, knew that Levi was serious.
So he stopped joking and focused on carrying out his assigned tasks.
High vantage points, suspicious vehicles, construction zones... any direction or location that could potentially become a target for an assassin's attack—this was Wesker's responsibility.
Li Wei focused intently on processing each message.
As the convoy got closer to the hotel, Li Wei became increasingly cautious, and several times his finger was already on the trigger.
However, subsequent observations proved that the window cleaner, Mrs. Kao who was driving slowly, and the car accident near the convoy's route were all misjudgments.
But just one street away from the hotel, the convoy suddenly changed its original route!
"Report your position!"
"Point number seven!"
Wesker accurately reported the specific locations he had scouted beforehand, and Levi's hand slightly deflected by 3 degrees, causing the sniper scope to become completely blurry.
Then, less than a second later, a figure holding a sniper rifle came into view.
But that person wasn't aiming at the convoy; instead, he was targeting... Li Wei!
"Bang!"
Li Wei pulled the trigger, but the enemy's bullet arrived first.
"Snapped!"
With a sharp crack, the bullet pierced the scope, carrying shards of glass that grazed Li Wei's cheek.
Li Wei remained motionless, keeping his hands steady. Even though he could no longer see his opponent, he relied on intuition and instinct to fire another shot.
"The first shot missed! The second shot only hit the hem of the target's trench coat! But the target had already retreated after being spotted!"
Only then did Wesker have time to report the specific results.
"It's not an evacuation..."
Having already put down his sniper rifle, Li Wei casually took a band-aid from the first-aid kit and slapped it on his face.
"He said goodbye and left."
"You know him?!"
Wesker reacted instantly.
Li Wei paused as he was replacing the scope on his sniper rifle.
"Claude Rains..."
"That legendary Marine who took down Bin Laden! You know him!"
The helicopter pilot couldn't help but turn around and stare at Li Wei with disbelief.
Li Wei nodded expressionlessly.
"He used to be my sniping instructor."
"Bullshit! My mind's a bit muddled right now! Give me two minutes to think about it!"
Wesker pinched his temples with one hand, looking puzzled.
But Li Wei didn't give him a chance to "waste time," and instead directly told him the doubts in his heart.
"He left the army six years ago."
"He must have known in advance that I was his opponent, so he decided to eliminate me first, otherwise he knew he couldn't succeed."
"That shot just now might not have been a deliberate attempt to let me go, but he definitely had a plan. At this distance, even if he chased after me by helicopter, it wouldn't have been fast enough."
"But no matter what, it's unlikely we'll gain the upper hand in a long-range sniping fight against him. We should try to close the distance with him."
"If I get within two hundred meters of him... I have a fifty percent chance of winning."
Wesker lowered his hand and quickly regained his composure.
"So, do we need to prepare a new counter-sniper plan now?"
Li Wei shook his head.
"My sniping skills didn't surpass his and form a unique style; he could think of everything I could think of."
"However, we can use this to pinpoint his location."
"At the same time, tell Thomas to take action, try to find out Claude's movements for reference, conduct in-depth investigations, and find where he is hiding."
In short, we can't afford to be passively attacked!
Wesker's eyes lit up instantly.
"Can I have an 'additional fee'?"
"what ever."
After finishing speaking, Li Wei ignored Wesker, who had already taken out his phone, put down his gun, and released a palm-sized "Black Hornet" drone to deduce Claude's escape route while searching for clues.
At that moment, the driver suddenly interjected.
"Do you guys have some kind of leverage over Thomas? I've never seen that guy so submissive."
Li Wei kept his eyes fixed on the images transmitted by the drone, but casually gave a reply.
"Are you very familiar with him?"
"He's alright... He's not a bad person. At least, he's much better than those shameless politicians. He always pays us when he asks for our help."
Li Wei remained noncommittal.
He wasn't particularly interested in who Thomas was, and only responded politely.
When the helicopter pilot saw that Li Wei no longer answered, he shrugged and continued to perform his duties, flying towards the designated location.
Li Wei, who was staring at the images transmitted by the drone, suddenly had his pupils shrink.
He found clues in the alley behind Claude's previous sniping spot.
Or more accurately, it was a "message" left for him by Claude.
A medal of honor nailed to the wall.
"Prepare for landing!"
